Annne Gordon, member of the Edgehill Press Co-operative wins a bronze NATJA Award for her article on the Iatmul Tribe of Papua New Guinea

Recognition by NATJA is a prestigious accomplishment for any travel writer. Anne tied with Christine McBeath for the bronze position in the category of special focus travel articles. Anne’s article, ‘Land of the Last Frontier’ is about the Iatmul tribe that she met on her trip to Papua New Guinea. As Anne writes in her award winning article …
“Young men of the Iatmul tribe believing themselves to be descendants of crocodiles, undergo an initiation ritual that involves having crocodile patterns cut into their bodies with razor sharp blades. John Fearfull, captain of the Sepik Spirit, is one of the few foreigners ever to be initiated into this tribe. On a steamy night as our boat rocked gently against a cane covered river bank, Fearfull told us of his initiation ordeal.”
Anne had been the editor responsible for final preparations on the recently released book ‘Caving in Ontario; Exploring Buried Karst’, a book on caving that has been produced by Edgehill Press.
